Beyond Treatment: Poetry That Speaks to Life After Cancer

While many stories focus on beating cancer, Mystics Recourse: A Poetic Journey addresses what follows as well. Written by poet and cancer survivor Robert Strasser, the book offers a literary reflection on the long-term physical, emotional, and psychological realities of long term illness.

Diagnosed with stage four non-Hodgkin T-cell lymphoma in 2021, Strasser underwent chemotherapy, relapse, major back surgery, and a stem cell transplant in two years. In his introduction and to some degree his poetry, he speaks to fatigue and chronic pain, fear of recurrence, isolation, and the changed pace of life that remains long after treatment ends. Cancer stays with us for life.

Rather than offering reassurance, the poems emphasize truth and presence. They give voice to experiences often left unspoken and highlight the importance of compassion for those living with long-term illness.  They offer hope to a population needing hope and perspective.

Released on November 11, 2025, Mystics Recourse offers readers an opportunity to engage with cancer narratives that extend beyond diagnosis and recovery milestones. It is inspiration in the struggle to redefine life while participating in society. Voices are needed, and this is one.
